An amount of 142.19 million dirhams has been earmarked to complete the ten-year plan 2005-2014 in the Al Hoceima region, intended to preserve and secure the forest heritage, says a report from the High Commissioner for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification (HCEFD).
This plan, which concerns the proposed National Park of Al Hoceima (45.61 MDH) and the project of Targuist (MDH 96.58), encompasses programs for the conservation of fauna and flora as an ecological area, reforestation, land clearing, pasture improvement and reducing soil erosion.
It also involves the establishment of a computer module for managing fire risk and job creation to promote the living standards of residents nearby forests, through the distribution of fruit trees, beehives, the creation of water points and clearing of forested areas.
The forest heritage of the Al Hoceima region includes cedar, which covers an area of 12,000 ha and and pine (20,000 ha). These forest resources contribute to the development of the regional economy and the creation of ecological tourism activities.
