6th Forum for the Future, 2-3 November in Marrakech
This session brings together the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Trade of the countries of the BMENA (Broader Middle East and North Africa) and the G8. Ministers in charge of Education and/or Development of these countries could also join.

Morocco had co-chaired with the U.S. in December 2004, the first edition of the Forum which was held in Rabat.

"The Forum for the Future is a joint initiative between the member states of the G8 and BMENA launched at the G8 Summit in Sea Island, held in Georgia, USA, in 2004," the statement said, adding that "during the summit, the G8 countries stressed their commitment to promote reform in the BMENA region and help establish an environment conducive to an informal, flexible, open, and inclusive dialogue."

Several foreign ministers have already confirmed their participation, including Secretary of State of the US, the foreign ministers of Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, the Palestinian Authority, Italy. According to the statement, the meeting will also involve representatives from several regional and international organizations and representatives of society and the private sector.

The BMENA initiative complements the goals outlined by President Obama in his speech in Cairo and is a natural partner for progress in key areas - particularly with regard to economic opportunities, education, good governance, human Rights and Empowerment of Women. The interest of BMENA on cooperation between governments, civil society and private sector aligns with the vision of President Obama of the partnership between the United States and countries in the region.
