A Spiritual Aspiration for CleansingMohamed Zkhiri
Saturday November 28, 2009
It is nothing new to say that the individual is at the centre of society. Humans by nature are individuals and therein lies our richness. Sometimes this individuality is manifested in clashes and conflicts, sometimes in harmony and togetherness.
Humans usually aspire to be better individuals both physically through sports and spiritually through religion, meditation etc...Today we see Moslems manifest this spiritual aspiration for cleansing by gathering at the Hajj "pilgrimage" in Mecca. It is a way to get closer to God and to reflect on their path and way of life. Indeed it is beautiful to see millions of individuals from the four corners of the world, with different backgrounds, different colours and different languages gather in one single place with one idea in mind, that of a desire to be better beings and to rise above worldly materials and interests, to realize they are worshiping the same God and seeking strength to overcome their human weaknesses and have a better understanding of their fellow human beings. It is a knot that binds them to obey a higher law which entices them to become better and positive beings without outside human intervention. All religions and all humans desire the same thing, seeking higher spirituality in different ways. One thing we have in common, however, is that we all exist in the same space at the same time and thus we have no other alternative but to make the best of it through peaceful and positive coexistence.
