This grant will reinforce the financing agreement that was signed in December 2007 and provide an additional donation of 4 million euros by Belgium, under its 2010-2013 Indicative Cooperation Programme.
Speaking on this occasion, Economy and Finance Minister Salaheddine Mezouar highlighted the main objectives of the INDH that aims at reducing social deficits, promoting income-generating activities and employment, providing assistance to vulnerable people and strengthening governance and local capacity.
He also recalled the significant results achieved during the first phase of the INDH, noting that the Moroccan government plans to launch a second phase for the period 2011-2015.
Mezouar voiced hope to see the EU and Belgium participate in financing the second phase of this project.
For his part, secretary of state to the Interior Minister Saâd Hassar hailed the Belgian cooperation and the achievements made since the launch of the National Initiative for Human Development in May 2005.
Head of EU delegation to Morocco Eneko Landaburu said that this donation supports the important efforts made by Morocco to develop the most marginalized rural areas, with a view to speed up the achievement of the Millennium Development goal relating to the eradication of poverty.
This contribution will consolidate the results achieved by Morocco to ensure the sustainability of many investments financed by the INDH in terms of infrastructure and basic social services, as well as income-generating activities, he added.
