The Moroccan film "Death for Sale" by director Faouzi Bensaidi was selected to represent Morocco at the 2013 Academy Awards, announced Thursday the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (CCM).
After a meeting in Rabat, the film selection committee representing Morocco chose this production "in accordance with the criteria established by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science," said the CCM in a statement.
The commission, chaired by the director Leila Triqui, includes film critics Boughaba Ahmed, Mokhtar Ait Omar, Omar Benkhemmar and Moulay Driss Jaidi (researcher, author and film critic), Khalil Lougmani (producer) and Hassan Belkady (film exhibitor ).
Since 1929, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is responsible, among others, to designate the recipients of the Oscars. It includes nearly 6,000 members from various professional film organizations. In addition to the Oscars, it organizes various public events, exhibitions and funding parties for other organizations related to the film industry.
