Forging ahead with Visionary Growth
The strategy of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s development forges ahead with steady progress in an uncertain world. Few countries are seeing this level of confident visionary growth.

The $9 billion solar energy project will create capacity of 2,000 MW by 2020, and aims to reduce Morocco’s dependence on foreign energy sources and protect the environment. Morocco is a leader in environmentally sound renewable energy development.

Allied with this the wind power project will also add greatly to Morocco’s renewable and clean energy resources. Wind energy will help increase the share of the country's electricity consumption from renewable sources to 42 percent by 2020.

Major infrastructure projects are increasing the Kingdom’s ability to participate in world trade and generate greater economic growth at home. The Tangier Med Phase II will make the Tangier Med port complex a leader in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean with an overall capacity of more than 8 million containers. The new industrial platform Tétouan Shore with an investment of 100 million euros to accompany the Tanger Med Port .Work has begun on the Renault factory at Meloussa with the aim of producing 170,000 vehicules annually by 2012. The North will benefit greatly from increased employment opportunities.

The motorway network in Morocco will have a total of 1417 kilometres in June 2011,This master plan has seen the opening recently of the Marrakech-Agadir motorway this year and Fez-Oujda, in June 2011.

The highway programme is achieving fast road links in the Kingdom so that businesses and citizens can enjoy the benefits of enhanced and speedy connections. Roads to remote rural areas are also being built. Tourism also benefits from this increased connectivity and the Plan Azur is well on the way to completion with Saadia and Mazagan opened this year and Mogador to open in 2011. Work is now beginning on Vision 2020 .

The many cultural and music festivals held regularly in major cities throuhgout the Kingdom are also attracting large numbers of tourists and Moroccans who join together in celebration. Art exhibitions and galleries exhibiting international and Moroccan artists are also flourishing in all major cities.

The Emergence Plan concentrates on developing new manufacturing platforms in : offshoring, car and aeronautic industries, electronics, seafood processing and handicrafts this will help increase Morocco’s exports.

The Green Plan for agriculture and fisheries projects investment in the order of $1.4 billion annually for the construction of 1,500 agricultural projects to improve rural production of olive oil, vegetables, fruits and grains, and to benefit from the free trade agreements with the US and the European Union and the Arab world over the next ten years.

These major initiatives for Morocco’s future are backed up by the INDH which is relieving extreme poverty and regional inequalities. The number of beneficiaries of the INDH today amount to 4.8 million people. The social housing programme will provide affordable housing to up to 800,000 people.

The regionalisation policy is being formulated to ensure development meets local requirements especially in the Southern Provinces. It will enable each region to run its own affairs effectively and allow them to make the best use of their human, economic and cultural resources.
