Extensive regionalization, 'bold reform driven by strong political will, MP of CE

The extensive regionalization launched by Morocco is a bold, large-scale reform driven by a strong political will, Minister of the Republic and Canton of the Jura (Switzerland) and member of the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities Philippe Receveur said.

The European MP, who belongs to a Congress' delegation that met Wednesday with Speaker of the house of representatives Karim Ghellab, expressed the Council of Europe's readiness to back this project and exchange the European states' regionalization experiences with the Moroccan officials and MPs within the framework of a productive partnership.

The talks touched on a wide range of issues related to local democracy and the process of extensive regionalization undertaken by Morocco, Receveur told the press.

Ghellab said that the meeting was an opportunity for Moroccan MPs to get informed of the different types of local democracy systems in the world to help prepare the draft law on extensive regionalization which will be submitted by the government to the parliament.

The delegation includes also Luciano Caveri, a member of the Chamber of Regions of the Congress, Councilor of the Valle d’Aosta Region (Italy), and Antonella Cagnolati, Director of the Congress.
