The tourism sector in Ifrane has experienced strong growth during the first quarter of 2012, with an increase of 116 pc arrivals, 139 pc in overnight stays and 5pc in occupancy rate over the same period last year, according to statistics of the province.
Arrivals and overnight stays by non-resident tourists also increased sharply by 46 pc and 42 pc. These statistics say that the highest increases were recorded by Spanish tourists, followed by the French and those from Arab countries.
The good performance of the tourism sector in Ifrane has already manifested itself in 2011 by an increase of 100 pc of arrivals and overnight stays of 80 pc, compared with fiscal 2010.
This upward trend in tourism is accompanied by the implementation of major projects to increase the accommodation capacity.
Planned projects, totaling 300 million DH, allow the creation of 2,494 beds and will strengthen the infrastructure of established tourist accommodation, which increased from 17 institutions with a bed capacity of 1200 beds in 2009 to 47 establishments with a bed capacity of 3000 beds in 2011, representing an increase of 89 pc.
The new resort of Ifrane, the first of eight planned complexes in the Plan "Biladi", which opened its doors in March 2011, is spread over an area of 40 hectares and has over 1164 hotel beds and 4000 camping beds .
