As we move on to our second year, we have carefully looked at what interests you, our reader, and we are acting accordingly. We have added a column "Patrimony" dealing with Moroccan cuisine, arts, tradition and architecture as we plan to include subjects of this kind more often.
We would like to point out and share with you some areas in which you showed particular interest, including subjects such as achievements in Morocco during the last ten years, A summary of these highlights can be found in the article "The 10th anniversary of the accession of His Majesty Mohammed VI to the throne".
Other articles covered international cultural events in Morocco including the Marrakech International Film Festival, the International Grand Prix, The Marrakech annual Folklore Festival, Essaouira Gnawa Festival and Mawazine Festival, Special reports covered Tbourida (Fantasia), Moussems (Annual cultural and social gatherings), The famous Place Jemaa el Fnaa (a World Heritage site),.and the original treaty of peace and friendship between Morocco and the U.S, followed by the George Washington letter of appreciation, upon becoming the first President of the U.S, to the Moroccan Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdallah.
Official Moroccan policies were covered through interviews with Industry and Trade Minister Ahmed Reda Chami; Energy, Water and Environment Minister Amina Benkhadra; Tourism Minister Mohamed Boussaid, and an article on Economy and Finance Minister Salaheddine Mezouar emphasizing the need to assist developing countries.
Some of our articles involved visiting newly created projects such as the Tafza Berber Eco museum in the Ourika valley. We reported on the Eden Andalou Hotel and its emphasis on ecology, and visited the philanthropist Eve Branson in her modest home in a village across the river from her son Richard's Kasbah. We reported on her projects which are enriching the lives of village women, her latest venture involved the introduction of cashmere goats for the production for cashmere woolen products.
The environment has had its share of articles on renewable energy, the protected areas of Morocco, Dr. Belkamel's ecological herb garden among others. Women seeking equality have made great strides in political, social and economic areas and we have covered this with articles covering the Moudawana (family code), women gaining more influence in society among others.
Articles on tourism included the Moroccan Convention Bureau, WTM, Regional tourism councils, MTM, and rural tourism. The economy was covered in articles on TangerMed, The Royal Institute of Strategic Studies, WTO, IMF, MEA and the Marrakech Chamber of Commerce. Other articles were published on wider issues such as multiculturalism and Sufism.
Amongst artists interviewed were Hassan El Glaoui, Claudio Bravo, Norman Douglas Hutchinson, Hassan Nadim, Vanessa Somers Vreeland, Mohamed Medali, and Youssef Elkahfai.
We published portraits of Nobel laureate Ahmed Zewail, writer Laila Lalami, Joe Gaggero, Dr.Ali Azzouzi's psychology of actors and comedians, web pioneer Tarik Essaadi. We also reported on Stevie Wonder, Sigourney Weaver, Yussuf Chahine and Michelle Yeoh. We also published an article by Celia Sandys on her grand father Winston Churchill in Marrakech, Catharina West on on her second home Marrakech, Zakaria Rmidi on English and the press, Mervyn Willis' the Arabic Sakespear, Steve Perry's global warming, just to name a few.
We try to cover matters of interest in our modest way on issues we feel to be of importance . It is a byproduct of passion and a belief in participating to make a positive difference. We aim to participate in creating coexistence through cultural interaction as Mr. Bensalem Himmich, the novelist, poet, philosopher and new Moroccan Ministre of Culture said, culture should not be considered a luxury but a right, just as there is a right to health, education, nutrition and teaching, a right to culture also exists.
