Some 105 passengers including seven journalists and two Lufthansa officials, were aboard the flight of an "Airbus 320/200" belonging to Lufthansa, the largest airline in Europe in terms of carried passengers.
On this occasion, a large reception was held in honor of journalists and company officials by the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) and the National Tourism Office (ONT) and the National Office of Airports (ONDA).
The German company will now organize two flights a week from Berlin and Dusseldorf to Marrakech and from Marrakech to the two German cities.
In a press statement, the Director of Marrakech-Menara Airport, Behajj Mounir said that the inauguration of this link is very important, noting that this initiative will help promote Marrakech as a tourist destination, with the hope that in the future the company will provide daily flights to and from Marrakech.
In a similar statement, the director of CRT, Hamid Bentahar said that this connection, first of its kind provided by Lufthansa to Marrakech, contributes to the promotion of the tourist destination of Marrakech among German tourists.
On the German market, the Kingdom will double the number of German tourists in 2020 to move it from 200,000 to 400,000 tourists per year.
With 70,000 tourist arrivals from Germany and 165,000 nights in Marrakech in 2011, the German market makes 4 pc in tourism revenue in Marrakech.
