Installation of the new U.S. Consul General in Casablanca




The American ambassador in Rabat, Samuel Kaplan, performed the installation of Brian Shukan, new Consul General of the United States on Friday night in Casablanca, the economic capital of the Kingdom.

 Mr. Kaplan recalled on this occasion that the ceremony on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, noting in passing that Morocco has always been on the side of the United States in the fight against terrorism.

Morocco must know that it has a friend, the United States, where he can count on, he said, noting the constitutional reforms and political changes underway in the Kingdom.

For his part,  Mr Shukan referred to the historical relations between Morocco and the United States, noting that the Kingdom was among the first countries to recognize the United States of America.

Bilateral cooperation has been strengthened by the signing, 5 years ago, the Free Trade Agreement, he said, noting that since the initialing of the agreement  commercial exchanges between the two countries have consistently registered higher figures .

 Mr Shukan , who recalled that cooperation involves many other economic and social areas in particular. He  expressed "happiness" of his assignment in Morocco which is undergoing  important constitutional and political developments.

Elected officials, representatives of business and civil society and other personalities from the world of culture and sports attended the installation ceremony of the new U.S. Consul General in Casablanca.
