No doubt that the American and French universal declarations of human rights dating from the 18th century, and those set by the United Nations in 1948, and finally the European ones, are the prelude to modernity. However, despite their importance in contemporary humanist literature, these founding texts can not be the alpha and omega of accession to modernity.
In fact, in the mysterious alchemy of changing people, it seems that any claim to modernity or even post modernity is possible without the dedication and the invasion of social, economic, cultural and egalitarian rights of this often marginalized human being; that is women.
Thre 8th of March is supposed to be the International Women’s Day, but why there should be only one day in 365 days? It is not time to give the right answer.
Women are now heading business ventures and achieving higher levels in advanced education, but that is not yet enough, as they deserve to be equal in all aspects for they make half of the world’s population.
Whilst further progress in the rights of women in society is needed, considerable success has been achieved in terms of legal equality, access to justice, security and personal freedom for women in terms of education and employment.
Instead of giving them one day of their own, every day of the year should be considered theirs just as men already do.
