The British government reiterated its support for democratic reforms undertaken by Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
“The British government reiterates its support for the avant-garde reforms initiated by Morocco over the past year,” Foreign Office’s spokesperson Rosemary Davis told MAP.
These reforms put Morocco on the right path towards further democratic progress, she added on the sidelines of a reception held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the British foreign affairs ministry on the tenth anniversary of the Arab Partnership Initiative launch.
The reform process carried out by Morocco is very positive compared to other countries of the region which are facing many challenges, she said, underlining the importance of reinforcing cooperation ties between the UK and Morocco notably in the economic and financial field.
The Arab Partnership Initiative is meant to support economic and political development across the Middle East and North Africa over four years. The funding for the initiative will help the UK work in partnership with regional governments and international partners to provide technical assistance to strengthen rule of law, access to justice and freedom of expression and building strong institutions to broaden political space.
