Morocco-USA strategic dialogue, recognition of Morocco as ‘major regional pillar under the King’s leadership’
The launch on Thursday of the Moroccan-USA strategic dialogue is a recognition of Morocco as a major regional pillar under the leadership of King Mohammed VI who is endeavoring since his enthronement to reinforce and diversify the Rabat-Washington partnership to serve the two countries’ shared interests, several former American ambassadors told MAP.

“Under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan-American ties are continuously fostered and the strategic dialogue is an acknowledgment of Morocco’s achievements in human rights, democratic reforms and openness,” Edward M. Gabriel said in a statement to MAP.

Through this historic dialogue, the United States is voicing anew its keenness to further strengthen relations with Morocco to tackle bilateral, regional and international issues of shared interest, he said.

For Michael Ussery, this dialogue recognizes not only the historic partnership between Morocco and the USA, but also reforms carried out over the past 13 years under the guidance of HM the King.

The United States is in need of strategic partners with a clear vision of what an open, future-oriented society should be like. This is really important given the situation prevailing the MENA region, he notes.
