Speaking at the meeting of IAEA Board of Governors, Zniber said that Morocco "also welcomes the Agency's efforts to develop human capacities, particularly in countries embarking on new nuclear programs."

He said that Morocco attaches particular importance to matters of safety and nuclear security, noting that the North African country hails the achievements made in 2009 in terms of safe operation of nuclear plants and research reactors.

"We share the view that in order to maintain safety at a very high level, all parties must avoid compliance and respect scrupulously international standards,” the diplomat noted.

Morocco, he went on to say, also appreciates the Agency's efforts to strengthen the arsenal of security standards and fulfill its obligations under relevant international instruments.

The diplomat said that Morocco’s position has always been to support efforts to limit nuclear proliferation, and it encourages all the actions in favor of establishing a world free of nuclear weapons.

He also stressed that the kingdom, aware of the importance of regional and South-South cooperation and eager to share its expertise with developing countries, particularly those in Africa, joins with determination and willingness in projects initiated by the IAEA as part of the technical cooperation program.(MAP)
