Head of government Abdelilah Benkirane stressed Wednesday the importance of development projects agreed under the “Millennium Challenge Account” program signed between Morocco and the United States of America, which aims to improve the lives of nearly 600,000 Moroccan families.

Benkirane, who chaired in Rabat the meeting of the 10th Strategic Orientation Council (COS) of the Agency of Partnership for Progress (APP) said the MCA-Morocco program, object of the Compact, signed on 31 August 2007, under which the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) granted Morocco assistance of $ 697.5 million to stimulate economic growth and improve employment in growth sectors, including agriculture, fishing and crafts, raise the living standards of Moroccan families, reduce poverty and social inequality, support small businesses and develop vocational training, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

The amount of all obligations related to MCA-Morocco until April of this year stood at 567.3 million dollars, or 81% of the total budget, while the total amount of funds injected reached $ 312 million (45% of the budget), said Benkirane, who emphasized the need to increase efforts and accelerate achievements in the field as part of this program which will end in September 14, 2013.
