Spanish FM commends cooperation with Morocco to combat illegal immigration

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Garcia-Margallo hailed, on Thursday, cooperation with Morocco to fight illegal immigration, a problem to which a durable solution is needed involving the EU.

In a statement to “Onda Cero” radio channel, the Spanish minister, who was asked about the decision last Tuesday to evacuate a group of Sub-Saharan illegal immigrants, underlined that the Spanish government is working with neighboring countries and the EU to find a durable solution to this issue.

Margallo said that the fight against illegal immigration issue will be examined during the upcoming Morocco-Spain high level meeting slated in Rabat.

He highlighted the cooperation ties between Spain and Morocco in several fields, recalling that Morocco recently sent two seaplanes to participate in fire fighting operations in the Canary Islands.
