The Ministry of Religious Endowment and Islamic Affairs allocated five million dirhams for Sidi Chiker project. This was confirmed by Minister of Religious Endowment and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Taoufik at a press conference last Saturday, during the Sidi Chiker meetings of global followers of Sufism.

The project of Sidi Chiker is a development program which includes the enlargement and restoration of the mosque and the tomb of the saint and also building a village to shelter Sufis and host their spiritual activities. Besides these facilities, the ministry plans to build an area for prayer and develop an infrastructure in conjunction with the plantating of olive trees and vineyards on a 100 hectare area of land. "Sufism affiliates will now be able to come to meditate in a pleasant environment", said the minister.

A thousand Sufi affiliates from 43 countries took part in this second edition of the "Sidi Chiker" global meeting held under the patronage of King Mohamed VI, to mediate, reflect on and discuss the role of Sufism in the modern world. Many Sufi masters represented their respective countries with dozens of their followers, and hundreds of experts in this spiritual doctrine of Islam during the second international gathering of Sufis.

In this regard, Mr. Taoufik said this occasion has become a meeting place that brings together the largest number of brotherhoods and Sufism affiliates from around the world. They are committed, he said, to be present whenever there is an event on Sufism. A commitment that encouraged the Kingdom to organize these international meetings every two years.

According to Mr. Taoufik, the organization of such events shows the importance that the Kingdom attaches to these gatherings of Sufis as the real centers of spiritual development and civilization. "Morocco is rich in its ancient culture and lucid in its policy choices. These choices have been developed in harmony with its faith and ethics, thus remaining a perfect place to live in peace and spiritual renewal", said the minister.

Sufism, as an ethical way of individual and collective worship in Islam is sought after more than ever in a world in search of a lively and illuminating spirituality to irrigate a new culture of peace, love, and good governance. Sufi ethics are at the heart of human concerns and are the pillars of development in the modern world, It is in harmony with the universal values of justice, equality, and respect.
