Tangier-Med traffic reaches 27 million tonnes in 2011

The Tangier-Med port boosted its container traffic in 2011 by 17% to reach 27 million tonnes compared to 2010, the authority of the northern port said TMPA.

The port’s container activity rose 1.7 to stand at 2,093,408 containers, the same source added in a statement.

The improvement in the port’s domestic performance is partly ascribed to the opening of the highway linking the port to the Atlantic city of Agadir which enabled logistical access to the agricultural region of Souss, TMPA said.

Regarding passenger traffic, 1,752,061 travelers and 643,213 vehicles transited through the port, that is a rise of 51% and 67% respectively compared to 2010.
