Agadir city prepares to host, from 20 to 23 September, the annual meeting of the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals (EFWMF), a network of world music festivals, including Timitar, that share the same ethics.
"This is the first time that the annual meeting of the largest federation of world music festivals held in a country of the South. It is this part of the world that provides the overwhelming majority of artists that take part in festivals located mainly in the North," said a statement from the artistic direction of Timitar.
With organizations from more than 20 countries, this network of fifty festivals, including Tilitar, are sharing the vision that “the world is a patchwork of a multitude of local traditions and music, each different in expression and content yet equal in value”.
"By hosting the three-day annual meeting of the EFWMF, Agadir proves that besides being a popular tourist attraction, it is also a dynamic and strong cultural destination, with its musical richness and that of the region," says the statement.
Founded in 1991 and having just blown its 20th candle, the EFWMF attracts each year over 3 million visitors to its festivals. Its actions are relayed worldwide not only through its members, but also through formal and informal networks, foundations and representations of the music export offices in partner countries.
