Marrakech and Agadir topped the list and posted exceptional growth. They increased by 28 and 33% respectively. These performances were the source of 65% of the total additional nights. Casablanca, Tangier, Rabat and Fez also confirmed a bullish trend. In these cities, overnight stays rose by 19, 54, 30 and 21%. For its part, the arrival of tourists at border posts has increased by 27% (28% foreigners and 27% Moroccans resident abroad).
As to the level of occupancy rates, Agadir (15 points), Tangier (13 points) and Marrakech (6 points) recorded the largest increases in September. In the first nine months of 2010, the total number of overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments classified was up 11%. From January to September, nearly 7.15 million tourists passed through the border crossings for Morocco. Thus, the volume of arrivals has increased by 11% over the same period of 2009. During this period, overnight stays rose by 11%. By itself, Marrakech has generated half of total additional nights ( with a 16% increase).
For their part, the towns of Oujda-Saidia, Casablanca, Agadir and Tangier showed increases of 38, 11, 5 and 14%. However, Fez has entered into a quasi-stable compared to 2009. As for the average room occupancy, it has improved during the first nine months of this year by 2 percentage points over the same period of 2009. It was 44%. International transits registered at airports show that the number of foreign passengers reached 10 million during the first nine months of this year. During the same period last year, the number of foreign passengers transiting through airports was 8.5 million (up 18%).
Mohammed V airport Casablanca continues to take the lion's share with 47% of passenger numbers. The airports of Marrakech Menara and Agadir Al Massira have respective shares of 23 and 10%.
