Tourism shows encouraging results despite difficult global situation: official

Despite a difficult international situation following the global crisis combined with the impact of recent events that have shaken the Arab region, the tourism sector has showed encouraging results compared other countries, Moroccan Tourism Minister Lahcen Haddad said on Monday.

Haddad told the House of Representatives the number of arrivals has increased by 1%, while revenue also rose by 4% to 59 billion dirhams.

Investment in this vital sector reached 13 billion dirhams confirming, thus, its attractiveness, he added, noting that this figure reflects a degree of immunity acquired by the industry.

Aware of the challenges facing up to the sector, given the current global situation, the Department has developed an action plan on three areas of promotion and employment, support of air traffic and ensuring the competitiveness of the sector, said Haddad.
