UN’s Rio+20 Summit: Morocco calls for new sustainable development model
Morocco called for the setting up of a new model to ensure a sustainable development incorporating the economic, social and environmental dimensions.

The call was made by Head of the Government Abdelilah Benkirane, who speaking at a plenary session of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20.

Benkirane said that this model should target the enhancement of the population’s living conditions, moderation in consumption and balance between generations and social categories as well as between poor and rich states.

He recalled that since the first Rio conference in 1992, all participating countries were aware of the dangers posed to ecosystems, noting, however, the lack of collective effort to address this situation.

”The race towards unsustainable development remains the norm,” deplored Benkirane.

On the other hand, the Head of Government stressed the need to implement the measures adopted during the Rio+20 conference.

“The world needs a great justice more than ever, as it is hard to require from peoples on the course of development to preserve an environment that is destroyed by those who exploited it for their progress,” he said.
