US-Morocco strategic talks reflect will King Mohammed VI and president Obama, FM
The launch of the first session of strategic talks between Morocco and the United States reflect the will of HM king Mohammed VI and president Barack Obama, Foreign minister, Saad Dine el Otmani said Thursday.

“This strategic dialogue is an important step in our bilateral relation, and a new pillar of this exceptional partnership between our two countries, reflecting the will of HM the King and President Barack Obama,” el Otmani said at the opening of the talks in Washington, DC.

The building process of these talks started with the visit of HM king Mohammed VI to Washington in June 2000, during which the sovereign had called for putting in place an environment able to lead to a strategic partnership, and the establishment of a new framework of cooperation between the two countries,” he recalled.

Morocco and the US are keen to set up a “formal cooperation mechanism” part of a renewed partnership based on continued consultations on international issues of common interest, he said.

He also hailed the “clear” support of the US to the autonomy plan for the Sahara “expressed several times in the past, and renewed today by the State secretary, who praised the plan as credible, serious and realistic.”

El Otmani renewed, in this context, Morocco’s willingness to engage, under the leadership of the UN, in talks aiming to find a final solution to the Sahara issue.

Speaking of the Bengazi bombings, el Otmani reiterated Morocco’s “condemnation of the attacks that targeted the US consulate in the Libyan city, killing several innocent US diplomats.” This condemnation, he added, reflects “Morocco’s rejection of violence and confrontation,” and support for peace and coexistence.

The Foreign minister also hailed Hilary Clinton’s position condemning the movie that mars the values and symbols of Islam. “Any attempt against prophets triggers hatred and hostility between peoples, especially in a world beset by conflicts, and in bad need for politics based on security and stability.”
