USAID to organize the Civil Society Forum 8-12 September in RabatThe U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will host the first forum on civil society from 8 to 12 September, 2009. The event aims to build the capacity of civil society in advocacy and mobilization for social change.
The civil society forum is an initiative of USAID/Morocco organized in close collaboration with the Moroccan Youth Forum for the Third Millennium, the Association of Initiative and Development, the East West Foundation, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, and the Secretary of State in charge of Primary Education.
During five days of training, awareness, and celebration, 200 Moroccan youth between 16 and 35 years will have the opportunity to participate in activities and workshops on advocacy, participatory democracy, local governance, social mediation, strategic planning, communication for social change and citizenship. USAID will help to create a forum for exchange, dialogue and debate on many issues between the American and Moroccan youth. USAID also will honor 25 young figures or associations involved in developing their respective areas and provide trophies of Moroccan-American friendship for individuals and youth organizations who have worked to promote friendship between the peoples of Morocco and the United States. As part of the activities of the Civil Society Forum the USAID will be organizing a party "Bassamat" (Footprints) in tribute to civil society actors, those of arts, culture, media, sports, and in recognition of Moroccan-American friendship.
